Poems

Have you ever seen him—

not physically, but emotionally, spiritually?

Definitely. Always.

Seen him in mercy and kindness,

in love and tenderness,

in happiness and satisfaction,

in science and emotion,

in thought and progress,in nature.

I see Him simplyin every beauty I can behold.

How do I like my wine ?

Sweety, fruity, and soft,

Simply like you.

Which is my favorite season ?

Spring : Sunny , lighted , warm and green

Simply like you.

Gracias, Jinen/Tears of love.

Let me introduce the author: Jinen Friji.

I met Jinen in one of my “places in the world” — Piazza Navona. She works at the restaurant right across from the Church of Sant’Agnese. That day, I had sat down to enjoy that day overflowing with emotion, looking for a moment and a place to be present, to take in the atmosphere of the place I had dreamed so long of returning to.

The person who came to my table was Jinen — but something much deeper happened. She could read my emotion, and I could see her light. We connected through a glance and a smile.

When I told her that I was a writer, she told me a bit about her life, and I invited her to share her writing with us. She writes in Arabic and in her native Tunisian dialect, but she has the courage to write in another language — one that is not her own. That’s why I am so proud to present two of her poems in English.

I wish her much more writing ahead — may she keep opening her soul in every language she can, so that her message can fly far. Her poems, like these, are pure emotion.

She has promised to send me some of her writings in Arabic, which I will share with you soon. But in the meantime, let’s enjoy these poems.

Thank you, Jinen.(Tears of Love)
